Outer Banks Bass Fishing

March 20, 2013

The water temperatures are still cold with morning readings at 49 degrees warming up to 52 degrees in the afternoon.  The bass fishing is starting to pick-up even if the water is cooler than normal for this time of year.  Their internal clock must be telling them to start feeding and get ready to spawn.  I say this because today was a scouting trip to see what was going on and they seemed to be up for the task all day.  I again apologize for some of the pictures being washed out.  I have to set the camera up since I am fishing alone, and I think I finally figured it out.  Well the morning started off with a few sold keepers and got better as the water warmed.

As the water warmed the fish started the fish started biting better, but no big girls yet.

I finally figured out that I had to put the camera tilted down to get rid of the glare from the sun and sky.  Around noon (as always for me) the big girls got hungry and joined me for lunch.

Caught a few more and called it a day.

In all I put around 12 fish in the boat and had a great time.  I want it to warm up...but these fish are biting now just like the way I love to catch them.  The panfish are still hard to find right now, but just as soon as the water warms a little more, they will be in here eating everything that moves.

Outer Banks Bass Fishing

March 11, 2013

I decided to take a scouting trip to check the conditions and water temperature on North River.  The water temperature is still cold sitting at 45 degrees in the morning, but warming to the low 50's in the afternoon.  A warm wind from the south helped with the afternoon rise.  My fishing buddy today is a much better fisherman than me...I took a picture of him sitting waiting for me to catch the first one.

The morning started out with one striper after another.  They loved the crankbait slow reeled bumping the stumps.

The bass finally woke up and started giving the stripers a run for their money.  I caught five or six in this size during the morning.  Sorry for the washed out photo's.  As I stated, I was alone in the boat, and my fishing buddy for the day did not know how to work the camera.

Finally around lunch the big girls started to warm up.  Caught this nice one on a lizard.

Outer Banks Bass Fishing

March 9, 2013

We took the hour drive to Columbia, NC and fished the Scuppernong River.  The wind was howling at 20 to 30 mph which really cut down on the available fishing areas.  The water is still holding around 43 degrees and did not warm much during the day.  We still managed a few fish, an I was able to find a couple promising areas to fish later since I could not fish where I wanted.

Outer Banks Bass Fishing

March 5, 2013

I took a quick scouting trip to North River.  The water temperature is still in the low 40's.  The wind was blowing as usual this time of year.  I still managed to catch 6 fish all about the size shown below.  I am still waiting for the big girls to show up...it won't be long!!!
